Ketoprofen
What Is Ketoprofen Gel?
Ketoprofen topical or transdermal gel mainly contains ketoprofen, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSDAID) that prevents the production of natural enzymes called cyclo-oxygenase that cause pain and inflammation. When ketoprofen is applied topically on a specific part of the body, it significantly reduces pain receptor sensitivity and stops nerves from transmitting painful impulses to the brain. At the same time, the amount of ketoprofen remains low, which means it is less likely for the patient to experience side-effects. Ketoprofen gels are prescribed only for adults and may require proper compounding in order to work optimally. Formulations with ketoprofen topical can be customized based on the prescription and often include local anesthetics such as lidocaine.
What Is Ketoprofen Gel For?
Ketoprofen gel is an effective and convenient compounding product that can treat mild to moderate pain and inflammation in various pain-related medical conditions such as minor trauma (sprains and bruising), sports injuries, tendonitis (inflammation of tendons), swelling, back pain, and phlebitis (inflammation of a vein). It can also help manage symptoms of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Since ketoprofen gel or cream targets only the area of pain, patients and their physicians do not have to worry about the substance from circulating throughout the entire body and resulting in complications.
